Johnathan Evans
Logistics Coordinator
I was recruited to PLS in the fall of my senior year of college while I was at the University of Delaware and came straight to work after graduation. PLS attracted me because I had some internship experience in supply chain and freight movement, so working for a brokerage company was right in my wheelhouse. I already knew a lot about the industry, and it seemed like a good fit.
Working at PLS has been a really great experience so far and has taught me a lot. The Philadelphia office is the largest brokerage office within PLS, so it’s great to be a part of such a value producing portion of the company and really make a difference here. PLS makes me feel important throughout the day and that the work I do is meaningful, which is really important to me.
Working at PLS isn’t what I thought it would be. It’s a very relaxed environment but also gets busy and hectic sometimes. You learn to roll with the punches as they come and put your problem-solving skills to use. The atmosphere in the office can be laid back, but people are really focused on getting work done. You aren’t micromanaged, so it’s up to you to get your work done.
At PLS it’s about the quality of your work and not what you’re wearing, what time you come in, or how late you leave.
PLS is very results driven, and I think it’s great that we are focused on how we do as a whole instead of an individual level all the time. It’s an environment for type A personalities to excel in. If you’re outgoing and confident, there is high earning potential and capacity for you to grow in your career here. The people here are great, and I love my coworkers. We are all really close and hang out outside of work doing different things around the city together.
In my role as a logistics coordinator, I work with a lot of the new employees and get to teach them the operations and logistics side of the industry. It’s really rewarding to share what I’ve learned and to help them grow their books of business and different accounts.
The most fulfilling part of my job is when I get an email from a satisfied customer or happy carrier saying, “thank you for doing this. I really appreciate it.” When that happens, it feels like we’re doing good for all parties involved.
PLS is my first office job and I feel like I’m doing really well here so far. My position has taught me a lot about what it’s like to be a professional and to stay on top of things and work hard. Honestly, PLS is not what I expected out of my first job, but I really enjoy it and am proud to work here.
