10 Tips for Driving in Winter Weather

While most people dread their commute to work during inclement winter weather and try to avoid the roads if possible, truck drivers have no choice but to drive through these winter storms.  Obviously, safety is critical for these drivers and we’ve developed a checklist of 10 tips that all truck drivers should adhere to when preparing to venture out in the winter wonderland.

  • Have vehicle inspected regularly.
  • Map your route in advance and pay attention to weather reports.
  • Avoid driving when you’re tired.
  • Clear windows and lights of ice and snow.
  • Check that tires are properly inflated.
  • Drive carefully. Give yourself extra space.
  • Accelerate and brake lightly. Hold the steering wheel tight.
  • Have a CB radio on and talk to the drivers around you.
  • Stay in your vehicle if you ever get stranded or stuck.
  • Prepare an emergency kit and keep it in your truck.
