But what makes a good sales rep? Check out these five quick tips for what makes a good sales candidate!
Self-Motivated: Top sales reps are often self-starters and rely on themselves for motivation. In the world of sales, if you’re not first you’re last. The early bird gets the worm almost always gets the worm, so self-motivated individuals often thrive on the high-pressure situations created by a job in sales.
Confident: So much of sales is convincing others why they should believe you and buy what you’re trying to sell. Confidence, both in yourself and the product or service that you’re selling, is vital if you want to turn good sales numbers every month.
Competitive: This one goes a little bit with what I was saying in #1. Salesmen (or women) are often given a commission as part of their annual salary, so the more you sell, the more money you make. It’s an almost perfect motivation tool, however, it works both ways. Your competition will be working with the same motivation, so a healthy competitive edge will help you in both the short and long run.
Well-Read: All the best sales reps do their homework and know everything there is to know about what it is they’re trying to sell. Whether it’s reading up on competitor’s prices, company deals, or market conditions, having solid background knowledge as salesmen will give you a leg up on the competition.
Risk Takers: The truly great salesmen are leaders, not followers, and sometimes that means taking risks. Nothing worth doing comes easy, and sometimes taking the path less traveled is the only way to achieve your goal. Make no mistake, there’s a fine line between taking risks and being reckless, however good sales reps know how to toe the line without going over.
